Design Topics

There were many topics to pursue for my 505 senior design research project. I first was interested in the versatile evaporative cooler that can be window mounted or be a standalone unit. this was to cool a space using evaporation alternative to the costly expense of air conditioning. Then there was the presentation by the library at SFSU to design a low cost alternative to sleeping pods. I used a gravity chair as a template for the drawing above. though its lacking aesthetically, its a good visual to start on.  Here are some higher end gravity chairs I explored. Adding a "sleeping hood" would add the dark environment when a person wants to nap.  I've also taken pictures of some SFSU library furniture to incorporate them to a sketch design in the future.

Learning about Design Thinking

My Mission was to design something useful and meaningful for my partner Diana. we started  by gaining empathy and we each asked a series of question to each other. As the time of this entry is in the summer I wanted to ask questions about keeping cool at home so my questions were more about temperature comfort.  We created two problem statements: 1st iteration:  Diana needs a way to cool her room in the summer in a way that makes her feel comfortable without raising the electric bill. 2nd iteration:  Diana needs a way to control the temperature of her space in a way that makes her feel in control and informed.  there are major differences that I got from the second part of the interview. at first I thought that energy is a major concern when it comes to using the Air conditioner, but I soon found out that it is a concern but her needs were a way to cool h...
About Vincent Lim Hello, thank you for looking at my blog! Now, a little about myself. I am currently studying Industrial Design and Product Development at San Francisco State University. It was a long a fulfilling journey getting to where I am today. Starting from the past, My childhood was fairly normal, elementary to high School. After high school at 18 years old, I made the decision to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. I learned a lot being in the Marines, and it help me define myself moving forward in my young adult life. Fast forward my military career, when I got out of the Marines I decided to pursue my education by enrolling at my local community college, from there I transferred to San Francisco State.  I decided to enroll in Industrial Design because I always had a fascination about how things are made. what constitute a pro...
